What is "The Power To Be Strong" HIV Testing/Safer Sex Awareness Campaign?

"The Power To Be Strong" is an awareness anthem to inspire HIV testing and safer sex.  The anthem exists as an MP3 single available for purchase online, and as a free download at the web sites of participating HIV/AIDS service organizations worldwide.  The music video, subtitled in 20 languages, and available for free viewing and sharing on YouTube and Facebook.

What is the stated purpose of the campaign?

Openly-HIV positive singer/songwriter Nicholas Snow explains, "'The Power To Be Strong' song and music video campaign has been created to reach millions of people around the world about the importance of voluntary HIV counseling & testing and increased adherence to safer sex, and to empower the valiant efforts of any organization or individual participating anywhere in the battle against HIV/AIDS."

When was the campaign created?

The final recording session for the song was on World AIDS Day 2009.  The music video for the song premiered in April of 2010 with Hindi subtitles in Mumbai, India, and on the front page of Fridae.com, Asia's leading LGBTQ website.  The music video has since been subtitled in 20 languages and is available for free viewing and sharing on Facebook and YouTube.

How did the campaign come about?

Nicholas Snow, most known as an entertainment journalist and actor, became HIV positive in August of 2007 because of a lapse of judgement during a moment of passion in which he did not use a condom when he should have.  Because he had an existing media platform with which to reach people about his mistake, and the importance of NOT following in his footsteps, he decided to go public with his story.  From this point on, the primary focus of his multimedia presence has been to keep the importance of HIV testing, safer sex, and related issues at the forefront.  He collaborated with his friends, music producer Bruno Brugnano, and film and music video writer/director/producer O Nathapon, to create the song and music video campaign.

How do I participate with my HIV/AIDS service organization?

Exclusive partnerships are being created between the campaign and HIV/AIDS service organizations worldwide on a geographically specific basis, allowing the organization to giveaway the song from their web site in a way the promotes their specific voluntary counseling and testing program.  For this right, the organization makes a nominal payment to Nicholas Snow Productions to further empower the growth of the campaign.  In addition, Nicholas will work with you in creating and distributing this collaboration to your local media, and with additional support, will come to your community as part of the "World Tour" of the campaign.  Below is a national TV interview that Nicholas did when the world tour launched in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in May, 2011.
